Discoveries from the Road: Lessons Learned While Traveling the Country in an RV
Since late 2020, we’ve been embarking on a journey across the United States in our RV. It's not just about seeing the sights; it's about immersing oneself in the diverse tapestry of landscapes, wildlife, and people that make up this vast and beautiful country. Here are six profound lessons learned while traversing the byways of America.

1. Unexpected Encounters: Pelicans in Denver?
Picture this: You're strolling through Chatfield State Park (Denver), taking in the sights and sounds of nature, when suddenly, you spot something unexpected – pelicans! Yes, those majestic birds usually associated with coastal regions are making a splash in landlocked Denver. This discovery serves as a reminder that nature's surprises are everywhere, waiting to be uncovered, no matter where you roam.

2. Diverse Perspectives: Bursting the Bubble
Living on the road provides ample opportunity to meet people from all walks of life, each with unique beliefs and perspectives. While it's easy to surround ourselves with like-minded individuals, embracing diversity enriches our understanding of the world. Engaging with people whose views challenge our own can be uncomfortable yet ultimately enlightening, broadening our horizons in unexpected ways.
We love exploring on our bikes. We have both Specialized Mountain and Road Bikes.
3. Outdoor Oasis: Trails Galore in the West
For outdoor enthusiasts, the western United States is a paradise waiting to be explored. With vast expanses of wilderness and an extensive network of trails, the region beckons adventurers to lace up their hiking boots or hop on their bikes and embark on epic journeys through breathtaking landscapes. Whether it's a leisurely stroll or an adrenaline-pumping mountain bike ride, the West offers endless opportunities for outdoor recreation and exploration.

4. Nature's Classroom: Wildlife Wonders
Living in an RV means being intimately connected with nature, and the experiences encountered along the way are extraordinary. From witnessing bull bison grazing mere feet from your doorstep to falling asleep to the yips/yelps of coyotes, each encounter offers a glimpse into the intricate tapestry of the natural world. Learning about Harris Hawks (Tonto National Forest) and their unique hunting behaviors or marveling at the majesty of a moose at Rocky Mountain National Park adds depth and richness to the RV lifestyle.

5. Unforgettable Moments: Connecting with the Wild
Perhaps the most cherished aspect of life on the road is the opportunity to forge deep connections with the wild. Whether it's encountering a wild buck that befriends a horse or marveling at the grace of manatees gliding through crystal-clear waters, these moments leave an indelible mark on the soul. They remind us of the magic and wonder that abound in the natural world, inviting us to slow down, savor the moment, and appreciate the beauty that surrounds us.

6. Capturing the Beauty: Photography Opportunities Abound
One cannot overlook the unparalleled photography opportunities afforded by life on the road. From ancient rock formations sculpted over millions of years to the fossilized remains of mammoths in South Dakota, every stop along the journey presents a chance to capture the essence of America's diverse landscapes. Whether it's the otherworldly landscapes of Petrified Forest National Park or the rugged beauty of Badlands National Park, photographers are spoiled for choice when it comes to finding inspiration on the open road.
I also love visiting museums. Seeing Georgia O’Keeffe’s Home and Studio in Abiqui, New Mexico, was extra special. The plants she lived with are still alive and thriving. Kim Brundage Photography
Life on the road in an RV is more than just a journey; it's a transformative experience that opens our eyes to the wonders of nature, the richness of human diversity, and the joy of living in harmony with the world around us.
So, pack your bags, hit the open road, and prepare to be amazed by the countless discoveries that await you along the way.
Happy travels!
