Longhorn Steers in downtown Fort Worth, TX

Holy cow - I rode a Longhorn Steer in Forth Worth, TX!

I was curious to check out Forth Worth, TX the Longhorn Steer cattle drive through the Fort Worth Stockyards. The Fort Worth Herd is the world's only twice-daily longhorn cattle drive, held every day at 11:30 AM & 4:00 PM in the Fort Worth Stockyards. I caught both of the cattle drives.

I drove 2 hours from Athens to Fort Worth, TX to join my local friend Cynthia. We met years ago at a Photography Workshop taught by Tamara Lackey.

It was incredible to see these massive beasts walking down the street. The slowly moved their heads from left to right to balance their huge horns.

My sweet photog friend, Cynthia met me for the day. It was great to catch up and learn more about Santa Fe, NM where she has a place.

I wish I could have bought some cool cowboy boots!

The cattle hands would sway back and forth in front of the steers to keep them together and then some rode on the sides of the cattle. The steers seem to know their duty and marched on Main Street for 5 minutes.

The only worlds twice daily cattle drive - lots of history here!

The steer I rode on. They said it was free to get on and $5 to get off. I thought it would be a fun thing touristy thing to do.

I especially loved seeing the horses and the Fort Worth Mounted Police Officer.

What a great day trip! I’m so glad I was able to see Cynthia again and spend coveted time together.
